The story of Bonville Champagne starts at the turn of the 20th century when Alfred Bonville, in equal parts reckless and a visionary, decided to risk buying plots of land in vineyards that had been destroyed by Phylloxera* only a few years earlier. His focus was exclusively on Grand Cru vineyards and, despite the economic downturn of the 1930s, the gamble eventually paid off.
The opportunity for commercial success came in the years after 1945, when Alfred’s son Franck began to commercialise cuvées in his name. Since then the Bonville family has overseen the complete modernisation of their production, at one point selling some of their harvest to Bollinger, but always maintaining a focus on their range of amazing Champagnes.
Olivier Bonville represents the fourth generation at the helm of the operation, having taken over from his father Gilles in the 1990s. The vineyards now extend to over 20 hectares in the most sought after villages of Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil – some of the most valuable agricultural land in the world, consisting of 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay. We are delighted to offer this exceptional Champagne at all our venues.
* Phylloxera is a microscopic louse or aphid which eats the roots of vines. It was responsible for wiping out many of Europe’s vineyards in the 1850s in a devastating rampage which changed the world of wine forever. To this day almost all European vineyards are planted on American rootstock which is still immune to Phylloxera.
For today’s Healey Barn ‘real wedding’, we’re looking at Jo & Doug’s fun and lively event with gorgeous photos taken by Paul Santos who was voted international multi-award winner and one of the world’s best wedding photographers in 2016.
Our barn is one of those incredible places that can be the perfect spot for a wide variety of styles, from cosy and intimate to extravagant and glamorous, or something that causes quite a commotion, like Jo & Doug’s ‘Big Band’ wedding!
With incredible entertainment provided by New York Brass Band from the get go, this was bound to be a memorable affair. We love it when couples come up with original ideas and exceptional vendors to deliver them for their wedding day and New York Brass Band was just that. Hailed as some of Yorkshire’s finest musicians who know how to get the party started, this fantastic group got everyone dancing and having fun! Live music is always a joy, but the presence and energy that glows off a big brass band is something quite special.
But the band alone wasn’t the only thing that gave Jo and Doug’s wedding that amazing atmosphere; the glorious sunshine and bright decorations adorning our lovely barn certainly played a big role too.
With large wreaths of sunflowers and greenery hanging from the ceilings and fairy lights throughout, the whole barn took on a really wonderful, summery feeling and Jo looked absolutely stunning in her lace ‘Watters’ dress and hair vine by New York designer Amanda Judge.
Our courtyards and other outdoor areas were enjoyed by the guests who were played out of the ceremony by the big brass band! Making the most of our fantastic selection of wine and champagne with nothing but blue skies above, the bride and groom couldn’t stop their dancing feet and neither could their friends and family.
The photos taken in nearby woods show off just what a fabulous location our barn is in, surrounded by exceptional, wild beauty, offering wedding photo ops like you wouldn’t believe!
We loved the quirky use of scrabble tiles as place settings and the choice of mixed bottles and mini clipboards as vases and menus, lending to the really laid back feeling that our barn excels in.
As guests tucked into a tasty menu selection, chosen by the happy couple at an earlier date, you could feel the happiness and family vibe in the air. Like a home from home, our barn shuns formalities and instantly puts people at ease. Oh, and our sensational chocolate brownies help with that too!
Jo & Doug were all smiles as they made their way through their friends and family as man and wife and everyone had a blast at their unique celebration.
With the whole event running smoothly as ever, thanks to our fantastic team here at Healey Barn, the wedding of their dreams went off without a hitch!

Finding The Perfect Wedding Dress
Choosing your wedding dress is going to be a challenge – you can only have one and it’s got to tick all the boxes. So how do you make the right decision?
Be Open Minded
We’re not suggesting that you throw yourself out of your comfort zone for your wedding day, but don’t shy away from trying out different styles when you’re first figuring out what look to go for.
The truth is, you just don’t know what you dream wedding dress is until you try it on, so have fun dressing up in a variety of dress silhouettes, from boho to ballgown. Many brides-to-be go dress shopping with one look in mind, only to find that they fall in love with something totally different.
Do Your Research
It can be a be of a nightmare, going in for a wedding dress appointment with absolutely no idea of what you like. Whilst it is a good idea to try on a good selection of styles, you will find it very helpful to go in with some idea of designers you like, that the shop has in stock.
The Wedding Dress Company has a fantastic selection of all the best designers, so you’ll be spoiled for choice. Appointments don’t last forever and you don’t want to waste the time you spend there, so try to have something in mind for the stylist to work with when she’s trying to help you select dresses to try.
Know Your Venue
One of the biggest mistakes a bride can make is to go wedding dress shopping before she’s booked her venue, as this can have a big impact on what style you go for.
Whilst it’s true that some brides will find a dress that they love so much they’ll wear it anywhere, it’s also true that until you’ve booked your venue the date, location and theme of your wedding is all up in the air and this can really make a difference.
When you definitely know what time of year you’re getting married and where you are getting married, this can help to make you decision much easier – if you’re tying the knot in our barn during winter, you probably wouldn’t choose the same dress that you would wear getting married in a hot country abroad! You don’t need to know all the details, just the big ones.
Have a Budget
As with all things wedding, it’s always a good idea to allocate a budget that you are comfortable with, before going shopping. By having a firm number that you can go up to in your mind, you won’t have to worry about money stresses at a later date.
The Wedding Dress Company offers an incredible array of dresses starting a £1000, so be sure to factor that into your wedding costs!
It’s often the little things that will make your wedding truly unique, which is why décor is such a big deal.

Finding the perfect wedding cake that ticks all the boxes and suits your budget can be a difficult task and even more so when you discover that this is a decision that needs to be made well in advance of the big day.
With most wedding cake makers needing around 6-9 months lead time to design and create an incredible cake, this is one thing that you’ll need to get the ball rolling on pretty sharpish to avoid missing out.
If you’re clueless when it comes to the process having your made wedding cake made, don’t fret, we’ve got you covered! Here’s our guide to creating your ideal wedding cake, with our supplier of the week: Dreamworld Cakes.
When you find a wedding cake designer that you love, the first step is to give them a call or pop over an email with your wedding date and requirements.
From the first point of contact with Bernadett at Dreamworld Cakes, you can start the process of coming up with your bespoke design. Don’t worry if you’re not the creative type or if you’re not sure where to begin, just little things such as your wedding theme, colour scheme, dress fabrics and number of guests expected to attend can go a long way towards getting the inspiration going.
Probably the bit of deciding upon a wedding cake that everyone looks forward to: the tasting session! Yes, it is as good as it sounds; this is where you will meet up with your cake designer to try out a selection of their delicious offerings.
Dreamworld Cakes offers an extensive wedding cake menu for you to choose your favourite flavours from:
- Traditional Victoria sponge (Madagascan vanilla buttercream with strawberry jam)
- Luxurious passion fruit
- Tangy lemon
- Belgian chocolate and Baileys
- Belgian white chocolate with summer fruit
- Belgian milk chocolate
- Belgian dark chocolate and orange
- Caramelised biscuit
The Design Process
During your meeting, you’ll also delve a little deeper into what you’re hoping your wedding cake will be like. Bring along any inspirational images, colour swatches and design ideas that you love so that you can discuss your options.
Budget will of course come into play here, so be up front about what you can afford. Bernadett from Dreamworld Cakes will almost certainly be able to figure something out that suits your needs.
One great way to save a bit is to consider having a sheet cake as well as your beautifully designed centrepiece. A sheet cake will taste exactly the same as your tiered choice and give you plenty to go around all of your guests without having to splash out on an enormous wedding cake.
Ordering Your Cake
Once you’ve made the near impossible decision of choosing your cake flavour and you’ve gone over all the ins and outs of your design preferences, it’s time to leave Bernadett to work her magic…
After securing your special date with a £100 deposit, the final designs will be made and sent to you for approval before the baking begins. From this point, all you can do is wait, but don’t worry – you’re in safe hands with Dreamworld Cakes! On your wedding day, your amazing cake will arrive at your venue and be set up, finally ready for photos ops and scoffing.
Sending out wedding invitations is often something that couples leave surprisingly late, but if you’re hoping to get ahead of the game and really crush it with your wedding planning, make sure that you bump this task right up your ‘to do’ list.
Why? One of the biggest hassles about getting all your wedding bits and bobs sorted has got to be trying to get your guests to RSVP in a timely fashion.
Although all things wedding might be the only thing on your mind, it’s usually not so much for your friends and family, so when your wedding invitations go out be prepared to do a be of extra work to get those responses back.
Sounds like a bit of a nightmare, right? Well yeah, when guests don’t RSVP until the last minute (or at all), that really puts a spanner in the works, so following a few simple steps to get the yay or nay from your guests is well worth it.
Here’s how to get your guests to RSVP on time:
Make It Easy
Requesting an RSVP by post is one sure fire way to find yourself with minimal responses. People have busy lives and the last thing they’re going to find the time to do is tick that ‘attending’ box and mail it back to you.
The easier the better, when it comes to getting a timely RSVP, so keep the reply options really easy.
Set up a wedding email account (this is a great idea anyway, to help you keep on track of all your wedding vendors and quotes) and ask your guests to ping you over a brief message. Everyone has a smart phone these days so sending an email is no big deal. Welcome to the future!
If you’re set on keeping it traditional and still want to go for the snail mail system, provide a pre-stamped return envelope. It adds on a cost, but it’s worth it for the efficiency.
Be Very Specific
Don’t give your guests the opportunity to be lax about their RSVP. Make it abundantly clear on your wedding invitation that you require a response by a certain date and make sure that the certain date you choose is WAY ahead of your wedding.
If you don’t state exactly when you need your answers by, I can guarantee that you will be getting them much later than is ideal.
It’s easy to let the little things slip, but do try your very best to stay super organised when it comes to keeping a record of who has RSVP’d and who hasn’t.
Create a spreadsheet and make a note of every reply you get as soon as you get it; this way, when it comes to having to do your chasing up (which, unfortunately, you will have to do) your life will be made much easier.
We’ve broken the news to you in the point above, so let’s get down to the details. You will, inevitably, end up having to chase a good chunk of your guests for an answer, no matter how clear your wedding invitations were – so how do you go about doing that?
Despite it being very understandable that you need an answer with plenty of time to spare, many guests don’t get that, so try to be gentle with your reminders and don’t get too frustrated! Your wedding email address comes in handy here again as an email is probably the best way to send a quick, friendly reminder out.
